Music connects me to people

I have always found that music and people make me happy in the same way. I get the same rush and excited feeling when meeting up with a friend as when one of my favourite songs comes on. It's like a song is an old friend saying hello in a way!

I have lots of songs that remind me of my favourite people and times in my life. Have you noticed that a song has the power to transport you back to a specific time when you first loved or heard it? I remember back in English class, my bestie Tiff and I used to write down songs in the back of our school diary. She got me into The Kooks in particular. We used to listen and sing along to Oasis, Kings of Leon and other cool bands :) She also reminds me of Angus and Julia Stone but that love is shared with the beautiful Heath - no one can love Angus as much so don't even try.

My friend Emily from school will always remind me of The Beautiful Girls and Playjerise. There was a time one summer where we would hang out and just go driving around and we would always play them. I can't hear them without being taken back to that time.

The Strokes remind me of Iso. We used to sit in our common room in year 12 and she would have her laptop filled with all kinds of amazing music which she would play loud and we would dance around being crazy. Another cool band that reminds me of her is We Are Scientists.

After school I met lots of cool people at Uni. One of those people was Joss :) Everytime I listen to The Shins I think of Joss and chillin' out in first year with him. He tried to teach me how to play some guitar but I wasn't very good at it haha. In first year, I also went on a road trip up to a friend's beach house from school. One of the boys (Dave) educated me on the drive up with Radiohead. I still think of the country and our road trip whenever I hear them. I would have to say I also share the love of them with Ra. He reminds me of them as well as many other bands such as The Libertines. He is also the only other person who shares the same amount love for the Arctic Monkeys as me :)

The engo boys are interesting. Renton reminds me of bands like Birds of Tokyo, Dead Letter Circus and Trial Kennedy. Chris reminds me of Bloc Party and Phoenix and the way he can't sing any of their songs because he is tone deaf haha (it is honestly the funniest thing in the world, I am still fascinated by it). Pat reminds me of Mumford and Sons, John Mayer and Zac Efron. Yes you heard me. One time at his house we were going through some music on his computer with a group of engo friends when we came across Zac's greatest song - "Bet On It". I am ashamed (but not really) to say it was in my top 25 most played before I met him and loved a particular bit. No one has ever understood why, until I met Pat. He loved the exact same bit. Did we just become best friends? Yep.

The Arctic Monkeys are the only band where I have no association with anything or anyone else but my life in general. I have loved them since the beginning and still are not sick of them - I have been told that when people listen to them, they are reminded of me :)

Which band are you?

So, 1.5 years later...

I remembered my password for this thing after so long! Are you impressed?

I apologise for the delay, but my love has started up an amazing blog (which is called The Loh-Down, pretty cute, huh?) I wish I had as much skill as her sometimes, then I could link you subtly to it with a highlighted word like she does. Don't worry, i'll ask her how to do that soon, she is currently sleeping. My point is, her blog has re-inspired me to write on this little baby again.

After reading my somewhat embarrassing first post (an introduction to Jess I guess you could call it), I realise I need to start filling this up with some cool and exciting things to share with you all! For now i'm going to attempt to add a pretty pic or two of one of my favourite models from the 60s who I wish I could have been friends with, Jeannie Shrimpton. She was considered one of the first supermodels and she wore men's watches, what a trendy!
Everyone loves a chill out sesh with creepy dolls.
Until next time...

Good Evening :)

Hello everyone!

:D

Just finished up a group assignment at uni and we used a blog to keep in touch and now i'm facinated with the whole idea/obsessed. I get like that sometimes. I've seen people blogging in movies too... just seems like a cool idea! So here i go...

Is the point to write about anything we like? and to round up some followers? i guess i'm failing already. I don't know anyone else who has a blog yet either. FRIENDS! GET OW'N ITTT.

I like music. I think i can describe it as the backbone to my happiness. Everytime i find a good song i want to share it with anyone i love and jump up and down in excitement! :) Its how i connect with people i guess. Some people just look at me funny and think i'm a freak but i don't really care.

I also love photography... in general. I'm not a professional or anything. I have my little toy camera with film and go frolicking around with my loves now and then. I think it comes from the fact that my mum is a science teacher right? and at her school when i was about 10 or so, she taught a photography class as an elective. I used to come to her school at the end of my school terms and spent the beginning of my holidays learning to develop photos and things like that. I found it kinda relaxing and exciting.

Tonight has been pretty relaxed, i can't wait til the holidays! Until then its going to be pretty intense at uni. OH YEH! i'm at uni studying engineering. Its awesome fun, but pretty stressful. I love all the people in my course. We are starting to become a lovely close family.

Anyway, thats enough on me.

Catcha laters!

Jess
